How to Charge & Take Care of Your Mavic 2 Batteries

DJI recently expanded the Mavic Series line with the introduction of Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom drones. These two popular quadcopters continue to improve on the elements that are what makes the Mavic Pro so iconic. This time with even more advanced functionality.

Introduction to Mavic 2 Batteries

Both drones uses the same Li-Po 4S intelligent flight battery for power. These batteries comes with a large capacity of 3850mAh, the highest of any drone in the Mavic Series ever to this date.

The design of intelligent flight battery resembles a similar appearance to the original Mavic Pro. However, the LED indicators has been changed around the power button and is slightly bigger.

DJI Mavic 2 Intelligent Flight Battery

The company claimed that the Mavic 2 intelligent flight battery has a maximum flight time of 31 minutes in optimized conditions. This is the best flight time we’ve seen to this date from DJI for a prosumer drone. While it isn’t a major improvement from its predecessor, but any additional flight minutes are valuable when it comes to flying the drones.

Just like the original Mavic Pro, the batteries come with a secure and reliable fit on the drone. To install the battery, you need to insert on the drone until you feel/hear the click that lets you know the battery is secured. To remove the battery, just pinch both release buttons to do so. Never install or remove the battery while it is on.

The battery can be easily turned on / off by simply holding down the power button. To inspect the health status of the battery, just tap the power button once, and LED indicators will show up.


Charging the Mavic 2 Batteries

There are at least a few ways you can charge the DJI Mavic 2 intelligent flight battery.

Luckily, both versions of Mavic 2 comes with a battery charger and one intelligent flight battery for the standard package. If you want to extend your fight sessions and get must-have accessories such as Power Bank Adapter, a Fly More Kit is available for an additional charge.

We recommend you to avoid third-party chargers as they are not reliable and might cause damage to your batteries.

Mavic 2 – Main Charger

Both drones comes with a main charger that’s capable of charging up to one battery at a time. It also can be used to recharge the remote controller and mobile devices via USB Type-A or micro-USB output.

The charger has a output of 60 with multiple outputs in 17.6V and 5V. This allows fast charging so that you can get back into the air quickly.

The following estimated charge times are as follows:

Battery Charging: ~90 minutes

Remote Controller Charging: ~135 minutes

Important note: if you charge both battery and remote controller at the same time, the charging time might be higher.

The Mavic 2 Car Charger is built to charge the battery while on the move. It works with the standard port of any car at an output of up to 80W. Furthermore, it comes with built-in overheating and low-voltage protection to ensure safe charging while you’re driving.

Mavic 2 – Power Bank Adapter

Although, the Power Bank Adapter isn’t a charger. It’s used to use the remaining power in the Mavic 2 intelligent flight battery to charge a mobile device. It’s a good choice to have especially if you’re traveling and don’t have access to a reliable power supply.

The Power Bank Adapter comes with plugs that connect on the top of the battery and charge mobile devices via USB ports. A Mavic 2 intelligent flight battery with 20% remaining juice is more than enough to fully recharge a smartphone.
